Hey, folks!

We have some very exciting news: after over 4.5 years of hard work, our character animation sequences are finally completed!!

Check out a sample of one of these sequences here.  This portion of the documentary was storyboarded, designed, and animated by the incredibly talented Leah Coleman, and featuring a brilliant musical score by EmmoLei Sankofa:

With this milestone achieved, we just have a few more steps to completing this documentary:

• End credits animation – January 2024

• Film & edit last live-action sequences of documentary – TBD

• Post-production (final music, sound mix, color grade) – TBD

Once we have the last live-action portions of Enongo's journey filmed and edited, and we will have a good idea of when final post-production steps can be made -- bringing us even closer to finally sharing this film with you all!

Hello, everyone!

First off: for those of you in New York, Sammus has a show coming up in August!:

? We’re excited to announce that there will be a musical performance by the amazing @sammusmusic at our #BlackFeminismLivesSummit, a 2-Day Summit celebrating the 50th anniversary of the National Black Feminist Organization!

? Enongo Lumumba-Kasongo (SAMMUS) @sammusmusic (she/her) is a Black feminist rapper, beatmaker, and scholar from Ithaca, NY, which is located on the traditional lands of the Cayuga Nation. Her family roots lie in Côte D'Ivoire and the Congo. She received her PhD in science and technology studies (STS) from Cornell University and is currently the David S. Josephson assistant professor in music at Brown University, located within the ancestral homelands of the Narragansett Indian Tribe.

She is also affiliate faculty at the Brown Arts Institute, a member of Brown’s STS steering committee, the Director of Audio at Glow Up Games, and an active member of The Keepers Hip Hop Collective (@followthekeepers).

Her current research explorations include projects about the evolution of her revision praxis as a songwriter, the discourse surrounding rap performance and AI, and the emergence of hip hop artists who draw heavily on video game aesthetics to shape their work.

Sammus performs on Sunday, August 13th, 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM, at the People's Forum.

Tickets can be purchased here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/black-feminism-lives-summit-tickets-648464012317

Masks are required for everyone's safety!

We also have new members of the Enongo team to help make this film into a reality.  Introducing our newest executive producer, Sarah Timberlake Taylor!  Sarah has worked with director Kevin Schreck since 2010, serving as line producer and sound recordist on the UK shoots for their first feature-length documentary, Persistence of Vision (2012).  She subsequently worked on the editorial team for Tangent Realms: The Worlds of C.M. Kösemen (2018).

We are also honored to announce our newest (and tenth) animator joining the Enongo crew, Lindsay Campbell!

Lindsay Campbell is an Australia-based animation student. She’s working on the credits of Enongo, and this is her first time animating for film.

"I was honoured to be asked to contribute to this project. I was excited to be working alongside a number of Black artists, both on the screen and behind the scenes."

– Lindsay Campbell

Principal character animation sequences for Enongo have finished!  While we wait to complete filming the documentary's final live-action sequences with our protagonist, the animation team have pivoted to working on the movie's end credits.  Lindsay has brought an especially beautiful visual sensibility to the project, carefully researching traditional art motifs from Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire, the Congo, and other parts of West Africa, embracing the story of the diaspora and the cultural heritages of the documentary's subjects.  See a few samples of her dazzling concept art down below!

Hey, everyone!

Very exciting news: acclaimed and talented animator, illustrator, and motion graphics artist Patricia Battles has joined the Enongo team!  She will be contributing her skills and artistry to a dynamic and beautiful end credits sequence for our documentary.

Inspired by a myriad of art styles from the Disney animation renaissance of the 1990s and retro video games including Tomb Raider and Sonic the Hedgehog to graffiti art and Lisa Frank aesthetics, Patricia has a phenomenal sense of color, design, and motion permeating all of her art.  She studied at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York CIty and later transferred to The University of the Arts in Philadelphia on a Presidential Scholarship majoring in animation, and has since become a verified artist on Giphy.

"Being a part of the Enongo team feels too surreal: like being drafted into the NBA All Star League guided by 2 of the most amazing coaches on the planet (Dan Haskett & Kevin Schreck) with the MVP being Sammus! Being able to collaborate with a super talented crew of black women animators that I've gotten to know and admire feels very comforting; a sisterhood I never thought I would experience during my lifetime. With the current political climate, the BLM movement making a huge resurgence & the global pandemic affecting everyone's life in 2020, I'm extremely thankful and grateful to share with the crew and the world the very thing that has motivated me at a tender age and has been a constant source of therapy to get through hard times: creating art from the soul <3"

– Patricia Battles

Welcome aboard, Patricia!  We're honored to have you on the team.
