Latest Updates from Our Project:

Hey, everyone!

As always, welcome to our newest backers!  We're thrilled to have your support on our film, Enongo!

Another artist shout-out is in order: We're honored that two-time Academy Award-nominated animation filmmaker Tomm Moore (Cartoon Saloon, The Secret of KellsSong of the Sea) contributed a few bucks to our project!  It's truly humbling knowing that other artists who we admire in various disciplines believe in our project enough to support it.

Today is #GivingTuesday, which means this is a perfect opportunity to give to some incredible, hardworking artists!  As of this update, we're currently at 88% (just $10 short of 89%!), and we have just four days and a few hours left to reach our minimum goal of $20,000.  Animation is expensive, time-consuming, but invaluable in bringing Enongo's story to life, and our team is uniquely suited to doing exactly that with their remarkable creativity and talents.

We can't possibly do this without your help, everyone!  The race is tight and the stakes could not be higher.  So this #GivingTuesday, please spread the word, tell your friends to donate, and keep this project alive!:

We'll have other big news in our last few days of the Indiegogo campaign, including new artwork to be released, updates on Sammus' tour schedule, and, hopefully, more amazing backers to celebrate!  Thank you for your amazing continued support, everyone!  Your enthusiasm and generosity remind us that this a project worth bringing to life.  But it needs your help to get there.  Keep up the good work!  In the meantime, let's make a movie!

Hey, everyone!

Welcome to our newest backers!  We're thrilled to have your support on our film, Enongo.

A few exciting updates for you all.  We were honored to gain 64 new backers over the Thanksgiving weekend, including a few notable fellow animation artists:

Matthew A. Cherry –– director of the beautiful new animated short, Hair Love –– pitched in a few bucks and gave us a shout-out on Twitter.

Also, Chaz Bottoms, who just finished his own crowdsourcing campaign for his own animated project, Battu: An Animated Musical (inspired by hiplet and Chicago culture), also generously chipped in.

Several other artists also generously donated so if we forgot you and you want a shout-out, let us know!  We think it's important to support one another as best we can!

Additionally, we have an exciting event coming up for you New Yorkers: We're honored to announce that the Bronx Arts Initiative is presenting an open mic fundraiser for our film, hosted by Enongo animator, Anaiyah Tatiana!  The event will take place on Friday, December 6th (the day before the end of our Indiegogo campaign), 6:00-9:00 PM, at 37 Bruckner Blvd in The Bronx.  Local artists and performers will be encouraged to perform their music, poetry, stand-up, and visual arts, and previously-unseen sequences from our movie will also be shown throughout the evening.  Admission is just $10 and ALL proceeds go to our animation fund to support our amazing team of Black women animators around the country.

For more information, click this link: https://www.instagram.com/p/B5lcjCopoBI/

We are immensely humbled by this opportunity and love from the local New York community, and hope that you can join us for an exciting night of art and celebration.  If you can't make it to the venue that night, then please get the word out about our Indiegogo online!

We have JUST 5 DAYS LEFT until the end of this Indiegogo campaign!!  We're currently at 83% of our minimum goal, which isn't too bad.  However, that means that we need to make at least $681 to make our minimum goal.  This might seem daunting, but if only 68 people gave just $50 each, we would reach our goal in no time!

We can absolutely do this.  But it will require YOUR HELP to make it happen!  Spread the word, tell your friends to donate, and keep this project alive!:

Hey, everyone!

First, as always, welcome to our newest backers!  We're honored to have you all on the team!

As you can tell in the top image, we have some brand-new animation footage for you all to see!  This sequence is about how Enongo was inspired by video game music and the origin of her stage persona, Sammus.  And we gotta say, it's pretty spectacular.  The sequence is still rough, so it's more of a work-in-progress than a completed piece.  But you can tell how much outstanding work has already been accomplished in the past few weeks by our amazing crew, and how valuable your contributions are in bringing this story to life.

Watch, like, and share the video at the following links!:

Twitter: https://twitter.com/EnongoMovie/status/1200847873077923840

These are the amazing artists behind this terrific sequence, in clockwise order:

- Starring Enongo Lumumba-Kasongo (a.k.a., Sammus)

- Storyboards by Christa Carr

- Animation by Christa Carr & Jessica Honore

- Music by EmmoLei Sankofa

Much more fantastic artwork will be brought to life to help tell Enongo's story, but only with your help!  Which brings us to our other big news...

We are currently at 77% of our minimum goal!  This is a fantastic milestone, all made possible by you!  The past four days have been among our best in weeks, which is an especially impressive feat considering the current busy Thanksgiving holiday week in the States.

But we can't get too complacent just yet –– this momentum could easily die down, and we might fall short of our minimum goal.  Animation is extremely expensive, and every single dollar counts.  Hopefully, we can surpass our minimum goal and accumulate enough funds to make this animation as polished and beautiful as it can be.  To add the pressure even more, we have only 7 DAYS LEFT in our Indiegogo campaign!  This is it: The fourth quarter.  The final inning.  The Elite Four.  Et cetera.

This means it will take every single one of us to make this project happen.  And it doesn't take much: If just 91 people each gave $50, we would easily make our goal!  But that means the next seven days are absolutely crucial. We can do this, but we can do this only with your help!  Spread the word, tell your friends to donate, and keep this project alive!:

Thank you so much, again, everyone!  Words can hardly express how much your enthusiasm and generosity means to the team.  The next week will be our most dramatic, and hopefully our most exciting, in fundraising.  If we all pitch in to get the word out, we'll make our goal in no time.  In the meantime, let's make a movie!

Enongo animator Brooklyn Lee with her version of our protagonist as a young girl.

Hey, everyone!

First of all, welcome to our newest backers of the Enongo film!  We are hugely honored to have your enthusiasm and support on this passion project.

While we're hustling like wild to try to reach (and hopefully surpass) our minimum goal in our remaining eight days of the Indiegogo campaign, we wanted to take a moment and really truthfully say what we are so thankful for.

Enongo story sketch by Anaiyah Tatiana.

We are thankful for our entire team of artists.  They bring such incredible technical expertise, creative vision, and hard work to the process.  They know that this is not just a gig, but a real passion project, and they have all put so much heart into this film.  They have surged above and beyond our expectations and are creating a truly unique cinematic experience that will be immortal for generations of people to appreciate.  Not just our animators, either – we are thankful for our camera operators, editorial crew, producers, musicians, and production assistants.  Filmmaking is a team effort, and would be impossible without everyone giving their all to this passion project.

We are thankful for your outreach.  Often, social media can feel like screaming into a void.  It can sometimes feel like nobody is listening, and therefore nobody cares.  It can feel alienating, dehumanizing, and depressing.  But once in a while, something ignites, and you find that people are listening and that they do careOur absolutely wonderful associate producer / animator Shammah McVay put out a tweet that, by our standards, has gone semi-viral.  It has been our most successful social media post by far, and it's still accelerating in traffic, likes, and retweets.  Some of you are probably reading this Indiegogo update because of her hard work!  We are so thankful for every single post, like, retweet, share, heart-react, message, and email to friends and followers to help us spread the word.  (And HUGELY thankful for Shammah!!)

Most of all, we are thankful for your support!  Seriously, this project would be impossible without you.  Filmmaking, especially animation, is an incredibly expensive creative and technical process. While it sometimes might appear that a small contribution means nothing when we have such big goals, those small contributions mean a lot –– particularly when a lot of people team up to make it happen!

It's not just that your contributions are financially valuable; they are emotionally vital.  Those donations remind us that this passion project and our hard work going into it are valid, wanted, and worthy.  It means that others are willing to give something so that we can give something back to them and to countless others.

We had fears that this project was stagnating, and would wind up dead in the water.  There's still a risk of that, and we are still behind schedule.  But the recent increase in support over the past 36 hours or so have revitalized us.  This would not be possible without your kindness, your trust, and your generosity.  We are thankful for YOU!!

We have just about eight days left to make our goal.  We are just a few dollars shy of our crucial 75% milestone.  We can do this, but we can do this only with your help!  Spread the word, keep this project alive!:

Thank you so much again, everyone!  Words cannot do justice to explaining our appreciation for your generosity and support.  But maybe making a great film is the best way to articulate our appreciation for you.  Let's make this project happen, people –– let's make a movie!!

P.S. Did you scroll down to find our Black Friday offer?  We see you!  Well, for the high-rollers out there, we normally provide an opportunity to BE IN OUR FILM AS AN ANIMATED CHARACTER at the giving level of $4,000.  But for today and for today only (until Friday, November 29th, 11:59 PM, PST), you can be animated in our film by one of our incredible artists at any level of $400 or higher –– a 90% discount!!  If you're feeling generous, hurry and make it happen!

Hey, everyone!

First, as always, welcome to our newest backers!  We're honored to have your support on this project.

We have a few updates for you: Two of our talented artists –– Christa Carr and Leah Coleman –– were able to attend this year's CTNx in Burbank, California, one of the largest animation expos in North America.

Christa and fellow animator Breana Williams at the Disney Television Animation booth.

Leah Coleman brushing up on her life drawing skills.

Leah with Glenn Vilppu, a renowned fine artist and draftsman.

It was a busy, inspring, and exciting past weekend, and our next few days are about to get even busier and more exciting (and nerve-wracking!)...

We have ONLY 10 DAYS LEFT to reach our goal!!  The campaign ends on Saturday, December 7th, 11:59 PM PST.

At this rate, we need to make at least $605 per day to reach our minimum goal of $20,000.  Can we do that?  ABSOLUTELY!  But it will take every single one of us to get the word out to make this film into a reality!  We really cannot overstate the importance of online awarness enough.  Without it, this project would be impossible.  Follow us on these social media platforms, invite your friends, and tell them to DONATE!!:

We are RIDICULOUSLY CLOSE to 70% of our goal, only $45 away!  This shows that every single little bit counts, and that no donation is too small to make a difference.  The average contribution is just over $50.  We can make this happen, but we will need all of YOUR HELP.

Stay tuned for plenty more exciting updates in our remaining 10 days of the Indiegogo campaign.  We are so grateful for all of your support so far.  It truly means the world to the entire team, and shows that this passion project is valid and wanted.  We just need to take it home now.  Spread the word, folks!  In the meantime, let's make a movie!
