Hey, everyone!
We're doing a really good job, and so we wanted to answer some FAQ for you:
1.) "Where does the money go?"
Movies are expensive. This might not be the latest Marvel/Lucasfilm/Disney extravaganza, but even independent documentaries are costly for independent artists. Your money helps A LOT. Below is a rough, relatively low estimate of how much money we need to make this movie on an affordable but professional level:
• Sound / Audio = $10,000
• Color / Online Editing = $5,000
• Filming Tours = $6,000
• Gear = $15,000
• Master = $2,000
• Promotional / Festivals = $3,000
This isn't even including room for other expenses and a safety net for any accidents.
Plus, we're buying all of the Sammus merch directly from her at full price to support her (independent artists gotta help each other out!), and considering the costs of shipping those rewards to you generous backers, and then there are the less fun, annoying Indiegogo fees:
Indiegogo Platform Fees = 5% of total amount raised
Payment Processing Fees = 3% + $0.30 per transaction
So, yeah. Movies are expensive.
The estimate above definitely exceeds $30,000, our minimum goal. But, $30,000 is a lot of that, and will keep this documentary afloat. $30,000 is more attainable than $50,000, but if our backers and supporters are able to get us to our lower minimum goal, it is easier to encourage others to help us get all of the money we need.
We have definitely made a lot of great progress! With fees considered, we have made enough money to pay for most of our filming tours, creating the master, and a lot of promotional stuff for film festivals! Or, we have made enough for our sound and promotional stuff! But that still leaves a lot for everything else.
Basically, if we can raise about $500 per day for the remainder of this crowdsourcing campaign, we will meet, and slightly exceed, our minimum goal. A $500 increase trying to make that a daily mini-goal, and hopefully, with your assistance, we can get there and beyond!

2.) "When should I donate?"
This is actually the most frequently asked questions of our FAQs. This is great, because it means that people are interested in helping!
This question comes from all walks of life, but the answer is always the same: "NOW." Yes, DONATE RIGHT NOW. Or, donate as soon as you can!
Why now? Because the earlier we reach our minimum goal, the more likely other people who are less invested in our project are to actually support us. People who are just somewhat interested in hip-hop, or kinda interested in women independent artists, or who might have heard of Sammus become more excited to donate to a project when they see that other people want to make it happen.
Everybody is at different places in terms of how much they can afford to spend, and we respect that. Every dollar counts, from fancy post-production audio mixing to final color grade to making sure the talented local camera operators that we hire are paid fairly and stay hydrated. It all helps. But timing is important, too, and it functions like a domino effect. The sooner we reach our minimum goal, the stronger our campaign and the better our movie will be.
3.) "What's next?"
We can't give you all of the details yet, as this documentary is still being filmed and evolving. We're watching real life unfold, with all of its ups and downs, highs and lows. Also, we don't want to give away too many spoilers... But as we mentioned in our previous update, we'll be going on tour to document Sammus & the Galactic Federation traveling to Winooski in Vermont, Ithaca, Toronto, and Brooklyn! We will also be documenting the creation of Sammus' brand-new album (which you can pre-order at the $60 tier and higher)!

Hey, everyone!
We've made it past Week 2 of our Indiegogo campaign! A few notes:
• As of today, we finally reached 45% of our goal!
• We had one day with 0 donations, and another day with just one donation of $35. Every dollar counts, but we'll have to increase our momentum significantly and rapidly in order to meet and exceed our minimum goal for this crowdsourcing campaign to deliver the best movie we can to you!
Our goal for the next couple of days: REACH 50% of our minimum goal. Why 50%? Not only does it sound good, but 50% has significant value to other potential backers. Third parties are more likely to support a project like this once they see that they are more than halfway toward meeting that goal. They get a sense that not only do people want to see this movie, but that it might actually happen. If we can round up enough fans and supporters of Sammus to spread the word as much as possible, we're more likely to get other people to fund this movie, too!
Where does that money go to? A LOT. It goes to color correction, sound mixing, gear, editing, and more. And that includes our next thrilling update... We're going to film the Sammus & the Galactic Federation May 2018 tour!!
Your money goes toward paying for lodging, transportation (such as flights and rental vans), food (film crews gotta eat), and hiring local talented camera operators to document this exciting chapter in Sammus' journey, as well as buying merch from Sammus herself to support this extraordinary artist.
We will be filming the following tour destinations, so feel free to get tickets! Who knows? You might even make it into our documentary...

We have reached another milestone: We have made $5,000!
